Update Windows




This guide is to help you update windows XP and Vista. However it will be very similar in Windows 7. The main advantages of keeping your computer updated include helping to keep your system clean from viruses/spyware, improve speed and performance and prevent system crashes and incompatability. We will show you how to turn on automatic updates and also how to manually download the updates if it doesnt work automatically. There will be guides for both Vista and XP.

Windows XP

First we wil show you how to update in Windows XP.

In XP go to the start menu and select all programs. At the top of the list will be Windows Update, click this and you will see this screen:

On the right hand side you will see 'Turn On Automatic Updates'. If you click that then you will receive updates automatically. If you would prefer to do it manually then click on the 'Custom button'. You can then tick and untick which updates you want to get.

When you have selected the ones you want simply click Download and Install Now.

   
Windows Vista

To update Windows Vista, go to the start menu, click all programs and select Windows Update, you will then get this screen:

To turn automatic updates on, select change settings on the left hand side and tick update windows automatically, you will then have to set a time to update. To download manually simply go to http://update.microsoft.com and select the updates you want to download there.
