Peer Guardian

This guide will introduce you to a program which can help keep your web surfing privacy to a minimum as well as block any Anti-P2P people and stop Companies seeing what you are downloading. The program we will use is called Peer Guardian. This program is very small and light on resources so you will find that it will not affect your computers performance.

Step 1

First you will need to visit the Peer Guardian website to download their latest product. These are sorted by operating system. Simply select your operating system within the link and you will be given the latest compatible version.

Peer Guardian

Step 2

Download and Install the program. This is fairly easy as it is very similar to any other installation wizard.

Step 3

Once your installation is complete, you will see the following window. This wizard will guide you through the set up of Peer Guardian 2. To begin, click Next.

Peer Guardian

Peer Guardian works from a selection of lists. These lists include the IP address of any know threats. The screen below helps you choose which IP address you would like to block. Simply tick which you would like blocking and click Next.

Peer Guardian

You will now see the set up for Automatic Updates. As default, these are selected to receive updates for both PG2 and lists you’ve chosen to block. These settings will do just fine, to continue, click Next.

Peer Guardian

The initial set up is now complete. Click Finish to close the wizard. The program will now update along with the selected lists that you chose earlier.

Step 4

After completing the updates, Peer Guardian 2 should now begin. Now we can set up the programs interface. This can be personal preference but I prefer to take out the listing of good IP’s, instead display a list of only the blocked ones.
To do this, click the Settings tab at the top of the window.

Peer Guardian

You will now see the Settings window. I prefer to unselect the box which allows you to see all unblocked IPs as they do not require any attention. Instead, a list of only blocked IP’s will appear. As you can see on the picture below I have also selected red as the text colour for all blocked IP’s.

Step 5

After this is complete, return to the previous window by clicking the Protection tab. Now you can minimise the window and continue with your tasks, knowing you are protected from unwanted IP’s connecting to your computer.
