Defrag Your Computer
This guide will take you through giving you computer a defrag. Think of it like this, when you save a document or install a program, the data from the document/software will go into lots of little pieces on your hard drive, therefore when windows needs to get this file it has to jump around the hard drive. If you defrag then you are putting all the little bits of a file next to each other, so in theory windows can get and load the data faster.
| Windows XP |
A defrag is a fairly easy thing to do as you just set it off and let it do its thing. To start a defrag in Windows XP go to the start menu, all programs, accessories, system tools and click disk defragmenter. you will then get this popup:
You then just click Defragment and it will run through. Once done it will provide a report. |
| Windows Vista | In Windows Vista go to the start menu, all programs, accessories, system tools and click disk defragmenter. Then click defragment, similar to above.
Let it run through and your done! |
