Install Windows 7
Here's the guide to installing Windows 7.
NOTE: if you have a laptop, they almost always have a built in recovery partition. This means you don't need to mess about with any CD's. To find out how to access the recovery partition please consult your instruction manual. If however you have a desktop PC or a laptop without a recovery partition then please read on.
| Step 1 |
Step one is to get your Windows 7 CD and place it in the drive. We need to boot from the CD. To boot from the CD, you will either get a message at startup saying 'press any key to boot from the CD' or you will have to go into the BIOS and set the CD/DVD drive to first boot option. To access the BIOS you will have to press a key at startup, usually its either the delete key, esc key, F1 or F2.. if needs be just keep tapping them all until a menu pops up. Then navigate to the boot section - this will look different in just about everyone's BIOS but it will be in there somewhere.
| Step 2 | Once you have booted from the CD you will see the screen below. Select Windows Setup [EMS Enabled]. This will begin the installation.
| Step 3 | Windows 7 wil then begin to load the needed setup files.
| Step 4 | Now you will see this screen. If nothing pops up straight away dont worry as it can take a while. Just sit tight.
| Step 5 | Select your country and language at this point.
| Step 6 | At this stage you just need to click Install Now to continue.
| Step 7 | Here the wizard setup will begin, again this can take a while so please be patient.
| Step 8 | Tick the little box in the bottom left to agree to the Microsoft license terms and conditions.
| Step 9 | At this stage you will want to select custom. This is so a fresh install of Windows 7 will be put on your computer.
| Step 10 | Select the Partition. We have a seperate partition for Windows 7, however you will probably only have one. (This is where all the Windows files will be stored).
| Step 11 | Windows will install itself here.
| Step 12 | Windows will now restart.
| Step 13 | Once restarted Windows 7 will start up and update the registry and file settings.
| Step 14 | After completing, Windows will restart the computer.
| Step 15 | After you have restarted again you will get the screen 'Setup is preparing your computer for first use'. As well as this it will check your hardware.
| Step 16 | You must now select a username. Click next when done.
| Step 17 | Select a password for the Administrator account. You can leave this blank if preffered. However it is always better to have a password for security reasons.
| Step 18 | Enter your product key. This can be found on a sticker on the back of your Windows 7 CD/DVD case.
| Step 19 | Click Use recommended settings.
| Step 20 | Set the date and time.
| Step 21 | Windows 7 will now finalise your settings and you can finally get into Windows.
| Step 22 | Congratulations you have now installed Windows 7 on your computer sucessfully!
